Attaché 7 system requirements

Attaché 7 system requirements

Attaché Software recommends the following minimum configurations. As with most software products, the more advanced your hardware and operating system configurations the more efficiently the program will run. We recommend purchasing the most advanced system you can afford.

Minimum configuration

Server Workstations

One of the following systems:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, XP or Small Business Server
  • Terminal Server
  • Novell Netware
  • Citrix MetaFrame

1GHz or higher Pentium
1GB RAM (recommended minimum) / 512Mb RAM (minimum)
CD-ROM drive

The server will no doubt be used for other applications and these may affect the performance of your Attaché system. As a rule of thumb, use the fastest processor and as much RAM as possible.

For standalone PCs:
Windows 2000 (XP recommended)
500MHz or higher Pentium
512Mb RAM (recommended minimum) / 128Mb RAM (minimum)

For networked workstations:

Windows 2000 (XP recommended)
500MHz or higher Pentium
512Mb RAM (recommended minimum) / 128Mb RAM (minimum)
Mouse or similar pointing device
Laser or bubble-jet printer

Dot matrix printers, though not recommended, are acceptable for some functions.

Internet browsers

To ensure internet security, all computers should have Internet Explorer 7 (or an equivalent browser) installed.

Networks

Most businesses today either have or are moving to a local area network (LAN). A LAN generally contains at least one server, which stores the business’s database and programs, and several workstations, where people do their work.
Servers and server operating systems are optimised for high-speed database access by several workstations simultaneously. Accordingly, Attaché Software recommends that you use one of the following systems for the server:

  • Windows 2000, XP or Small Business Server
  • Terminal Server
  • Novell NetWare
  • Citrix MetaFrame

In contrast, Windows 98 and Windows ME are optimised for home use and do not provide the security, reliability and speed required by a server. Microsoft does not recommend using Windows 95/98/ME in a business environment and no longer supports these operating systems. LIkewise, Attaché Software believes these are not appropriate operating systems for either a server or workstation.

In addition, to maximise the server’s reliability, Attaché Software recommends that you do not use the server as a workstation.
