New Zealand tax scales 2008/09

• Applies to Attaché Payroll tax scales for Attaché 7, Business Partner and Attaché Catapult. Since the final releases of Business Partner and Attaché Catapult in May 2007, new features and enhancements, including updates to Attaché Payroll due to legislative changes, are available only in Attaché 7. Important information: Due to the changes announced in the budget in May 2008, which raised the income thresholds for each tax rate, the New Zealand Inland Revenue Department has issued new tax deduction tables that come into effect from 1 October 2008. The new tax scales must be installed prior to processing pays that have a pay period end date on or after 1 October 2008.
As the tax scales have changed during the tax year, if you have employees whose tax is currently set to calculate year-to-date then you should either:

- Set the Calculate Tax YTD checkbox in the employee masterfile to No (otherwise tax for the whole year will be calculated based only on the new tax scales, resulting in incorrect tax deductions).

If you have Attaché 7, version 7.01.000 (March 2008) or later, the quickest and most convenient way to download the tax scales is via the Attaché 7 menu (Setups | Payroll | Tax Scales | Download Tax Scales from Web). Alternatively, you can download the tax scales manually by following the steps below, regardless of which version of Attaché 7 you are using.

and import tax scales |

Click on the download image to begin downloading. The File Download dialog box asks what you want to do with the file. Click Save. |

In the Save As dialog box, click Save in and locate your chosen folder, for example, C:\download. Click Save. The file is downloaded to that folder. |

Open the folder and double-click taxnzoct08.exe. If an Open File Security Warning message is displayed, click Run. |

In the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box, at Unzip to folder, click browse and locate your Attaché program folder (for example, C:\Attache). Then click Unzip.

In Attaché 7 choose Help | About Attaché 7. |

In Business Partner or Attaché Catapult choose Tools | Company | System (Information) | System Status and note the contents of the Current Directory field. |

The file instantly unzips to the chosen location. Click OK and then close the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box. |

To import the tax scales, start Attaché and sign on to your payroll company. |

Choose Setups (or Settings in Attaché Catapult) | Payroll | Options | Payroll Options. Page Down to the second screen. |

Attaché recognises that new tax scales are available and displays a message asking if you want to import them. Choose Yes. The tax scales are imported into the company. |

To check that the tax scales have updated properly, Page Down to the third screen of Payroll Options and check that the Effective for Payments Date field is set to 01/10/2008 (do not change this date for any reason). |

If you have more than one payroll company, sign on to each company and carry out steps 7 to 9 above. |
